Road Trips and Toddlers

A couple weekends ago we drove to Waco, Texas for Checo's cousin's wedding.  It's about a 9 hour drive according to Mapquest.  But when you figure in 2 toddlers and a border crossing, that ends up being about a 12 hour drive.  It was a really quick trip.  We left Monterrey Friday morning and got to Waco around 7pm that night.  Then we were there all day Saturday and we left Sunday morning and were back in Monterrey Sunday night!!!
It was a beautiful wedding and the weather was really nice.  The wedding was on a ranch (the nicest "ranch" I've ever seen, well, I haven't been on many ranches in my life, but this one was not like the ones I imagine in my mind).  Sammy and Emma did really well considering all the driving we did and the late nights they had!  Sammy was so tired on Saturday (the day of the wedding) because he didn't take a nap that day and he was up until 11pm the night before.  So we decided to put him to bed at 6:30pm before the ceremony even started. The house we were staying in was really close to the site of the ceremony (it was outside just across from the house). So Checo put him to sleep in the playpen and we went over to the wedding. Well about 20 minutes into the wedding, Emma started losing it, so I took her over to the house and the closer we got to the house, I could hear Sammy screaming. I got in the house and he was crying and screaming, "Papi". He had Emma's stuffed doggy by the ear and he was dragging him around the house with him looking for someone. It was so sad. It took him about 15 minutes to calm down. Then we got him dressed again and took him to the reception with us. Then Emma was really tired. So back to the house with her...and I put her to bed. We had the monitor so we left that in the house and took the other part to the reception with us. And Checo and I went and checked on her every 15 minutes...just incase the monitor wasn't working or something. She stayed asleep, thankfully. Sammy was sooooo tired, but way too scared to go back to sleep in the house by himself. So around 10:30, I took Sammy to bed and went to sleep with him. Then around 1am, Emma woke up crying (she was in the playpen in the huge walk-in closet). So I went to pick her up and I was gonna get her some milk. But I found she was soaking wet all over and had no pants or diapers on!!! She had taken her diaper off before she fell asleep (I think) and had been peeing everywhere since then. After I had I put her to bed, I heard her playing and singing and moving around a lot before she fell asleep, I guess that's when she was taking off her clothes! So I tried to put her to sleep with us in the bed (for a total of 4 bodies in one queen size bed), but she couldn't fall asleep. So I had to scrounge around, looking for a new sheet or blanket or something to put on the playpen to cover up all the pee, I finally found something and she went back to sleep in the pee filled playpen.
That's just a little snippet of the trip....I didn't even write about Emma's hive breakout that happened on the car ride there!  Overall it was a really great trip.  Life is always more exciting (and sometimes tiring) with toddlers!

Beautiful scenery

After Sammy's scare (notice the doggy...it didn't leave his arms for the rest of the night) and before Emma went to bed for the night

At the reception

Sammy and "Tito", Checo's dad- notice Sammy's eyes...he is very tired!
I did take a couple pictures of the actual wedding, but I'm not sure if all the people in it want their picture on my blog, so you are just stuck with pictures of us.

Sounds so wild! I love that Sammy found comfort in Emma's dog. Are Emma's toe nails painted? And are yours two different colors?

Haha! No, Emma's toes aren't painted. And mine are only one color...that would be really wild if they were two colors. I guess the pic isn't very clear!
